The origins of the so-called “queen of ties” date back to the early 1800s, thus becoming very popular during the 1920s and 1930s.
Stefano Cau’s seven-fold ties are made from a 75 by 90 cm piece of fine silk – the “carré” – diagonally folded multiple times from its sides towards the center. Compared to traditional neckties, manufacturing a 7-fold tie requires twice the amount of silk because tailors fold the fabric by hand four times on one side and three times on the other before sewing everything together.
The production process takes around 90 minutes and requires three different-sized needles and threads. The hand-sewn details emphasize the quality of our products, resulting in high-end accessories with superior characteristics – which justifies the price gap.
Seven-fold ties feature a particular structure that makes them heavier than regular ones, due to the lack of an inner core, the supporting element consists of the silk piece itself. Specifically, the upper and lower sections are full-bodied, whereas the central portion is slimmer and more flexible to allow for easy tying.
Once wrapped around the neck, these garments remain soft, almost a scarf effect, given the fact that they have no inside. This is the main difference between an English-style 7-fold tie and a Neapolitan tie. Furthermore, they retain their original shape even after multiple uses or extended wear.
If you intend to supplement your style with the finest accessory you could wear, you need to treat yourself a Stefano Cau’s seven-fold tie.
